One day I found an image on the internet drawn by AI – it was a super cute crochet frog glowing in the colors of the rainbow. I was instantly enchanted by this little rainbow frog. From that day it just kept appearing on my social media feed repeatedly. Eventually I decided to create my own rainbow frog and even write a crochet pattern for it.
The amigurumi frog was born and the crochet guide for it was completed which I published for purchase in my Etsy shop.
But now I’d like to treat you with a little post-Christmas gift, so I’m making my favorite crocheted frog pattern available for free.
This colorful little froggy is made from cotton yarn. I used Schachenmayr Catania yarn for the crochet but you can create it using any amigurumi yarn or even a blend of cotton and acrylic yarn (for example YarnArt Jeans).
If you prefer plush chenille yarn, of course that works too. Feel free to use it but keep in mind that the finished crocheted frog will be larger this way.

CROCHET ABBREVIATIONS:
- CH – chain
- MR – magic ring
- x – single crochet
- HDC – half double crochet
- DC – double crochet
- TR– treble crochet
- V – increase
- Λ – decrease
- Slst – slip stitch
- * – repeat the part in () as many times as indicated
MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
- Yarn: sport weight cotton yarn for amigurumi. I used Catania by Schachenmayr. Colors: apple green, light blue, dark blue, white, black, pink, peach and mint.
- Hook: 2.5 mm
- Scissors
- yarn needle
- hypoallergenic filling
- stitch marker
Using the recommended materials and tools the finished frog should be approx. 7 inches high (18 cm).
CROCHET FROG AMIGURUMI STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL
TOES:
(make 3 pieces per leg):
Peach color:
1.) MR 8x (8)
2.) 8x (8)
3.) (2x, 1 Λ) *2 (6)
4.) 6x (6)
Cut the yarn!
LEGS:
Peach color:
1.) MR 6x (6)
2.) 6V (12)
3.) (1x, 1V) *6 (18)
Now join the fingers to the feet:
4.) 3x, 3x together with the 1st finger, 3x together with the 2nd finger, 3x together with the 3rd finger, 6x (18)
Change to mint color:
5.) 3x, 3x into the remaining stitches of the 1st finger, 3x into the remaining stitches of the 2nd finger, 3x into the remaining stitches of the 3rd finger, 6x (18)
6.) 3x, 4 Λ, 3x, 2 Λ (12)
7.) (1x, 1 Λ) *4 (8)
Change to apple green color:
8-22.) 8x (15 rounds) (8)
Cut the yarn and close the hole sewing through the loops.

Don´t cut the yarn after finishing the 3rd finger.
Connect the fingers as follows:

Don’t cut the yarn. Crochet the 2 pieces of the eye together as follows:
1.) 24x only through front loops of both the front and back part of eye.
2.) 24 slst
Cut the yarn leaving a long tail and sew the eyes to the head in position of your choice. I sewed them on the rounds 7-11 from the top of the head.
Embroider the mouth and the cheeks.
HEART:
Into MR: CH 2, 3 TC, 3 DC, CH 1, 1 TC, CH 1, 3 DC, 3 TC, CH 2 and slst into the MR. Finish and sew the heart to the body of the frog!
